The Witches Have Been Cast

The evil witches of Oz are almost finalized. I’m of course referring to the much anticipated Oz: The great and powerful, set to be released sometime in 2013. This will be the prequel to The wonderful wizard of oz, written by L. Frank Baun in 1900. But I am sure it will differ dramatically from the 1939 music fantasy that was released in 1939.

The two evil witch sisters are almost cast. Mila Kunis, known for her roles in That 70’s show, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The book of Eli and Black Swan, will play Theodora, the sister who later becomes the wicked witch of the West. Now, it seems Rachel Weisz, most memorably known for Evy in The mummy, is in negotiations to be cast as Evanora. According to Total Film, Theodora is a good witch turned evil by Evanora when she is rejected by the wizard; together they attempt to take over Oz. I think both brunette beauties will be spectacular evil witches.

According to Slashfilm, both Johnny Depp and Robert Downey jr. turned down the role of Oz, which enabled director Sam Raimi to cast his Green Goblin star James Franco as the wizard. The movie will be told from the viewpoint of the wizard, on how he arrived in Oz and how he became ruler. According to Slashfilm the plot will be as follows: “a young illusionist with a grandiose attitude is forced to flee the traveling circus. His hot air balloon is swept up by a tornado to the Land of Oz, which is run by the two magical witches.

The only big character left to cast for the movie, is Gilda, the good witch of the North. The short list of actresses rumored to be gunning for the role includes: Blake Lively, Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightly and Rebecca Hall. Personally I’m holding thumbs for Amy Adams, known for Enchanted. With an already amazing cast and the promise of spectacular fantasy this film is sure to be a hit.
