The Odd Couple

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg will be teaming up again in a movie tentatively titled Turkey Bowl. For those of you who didn’t know, myself included, a Turkey Bowl is a nickname for informal backyard American football games held on Thanksgiving or over Thanksgiving weekend (Wikipedia). After the unexpected $120 million success of The Other Guys, this odd couple seems to be comedic gold. I say unexpected because who knew that combining serious Mr. Wahlberg, known for movies like The Departed, The Italian Job and The Fighter, with hilarious Ferrell (Anchorman, Step Brothers and Talladega Nights) would deliver us with such gut busting laughs?

According to Slashfilm.com Turkey Bowl will feature Wahlberg and Ferrell as rival football fans who compete in a neighborhood vs. neighborhood tackle game for bragging rights. Deadline.com reported that Alec Baldwin is already aboard as Wahlberg's father and that the project will be written by 30 Rock's Robert Carlock, and Scott Silveri, with the story by Owen Burke of Gary Sanchez Productions. According to Firstshowing.net there are plans to have tons of cameos, resembling those in Anchorman where Ben Stiller, Tim Robbins and Luke Wilson showed up during a news team gang fight, and The Other Guys where Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and Samuel L. Jackson made an appearance as cocky detectives.

The film will most probably be released late next year as the Turkey Bowl is still only in the very early stages of development, but I’m already looking forward to wiping away tears of laughter. What to you think of the odd couple, Will and Mark, teaming up again?
