The Great Gatsby Cast

Filming for The Great Gatsby is said to start in July, says Variety, and the latest cast member to be cast is Joel Edgerton. Other cast members include Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Tobey Macquire and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Great Gatsby is the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and is now being made into a 3D film by Baz Luhrmann. This story is very well known, especially among academics, as it has been used many times as set work books for schools and Universities.

Film Shaft have announced that Joel Edgerton will star as Tom Buchanan, a tense and serious man whose wife is having an affair with the wealthy socialite Jay Gatsby (to be played by Leonardo DiCaprio). The role was rumoured to have had Ben Affleck as the star, however he had other commitments and could not make it work. The last two actors for the role came down to Edgerton and Luke Evans, with Edgerton grabbing it.

The story set in the 20s has had many directors trying to portray its tale. One of them being Jack Clayton’s 1974 adaption, which was well portrayed. Many theatrical and television interpretations have been done. Luhrmann has his work set out for him on this project and needs to make his portrayal stand out.

It is interesting to see that he has decided to make the film 3D. Hopefully it will be worth it and not just another director who wants to jump onto the 3D wagon.

What do you think about this film in 3D?
