First Look At The Conan The Barbarian Trailer

Take your first look at the trailer for the hotly anticipated adaption of Conan the Barbarian. Plenty of action? Check. Plenty of drama? Check. Plenty of muscly men and half-naked wenches? Check. What sounds like a great soundtrack? Check. If the trailer's anything to go by, this might well be an improvement on the 1982 original in which Arnold Schwarzenegger made his mark.

Have a look here.

Originally created by writer Robert E. Howard, this story is pretty simple. Conan the Barbarian is the quest of one man's revenge for the slaughter of his father and his village, against the evil warlord Khalar Zym (Stephen Lang, Avatar). Set in a land abounding with sword yielding megalomaniacs and rapacious sorceresses, the movie promises blood, gore and mythical monsters. Any fantasy fanboy favourite.

The director is Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre; Friday the 13th) who has rather a penchant for taking on cult classics, with varying levels of success.

Expected local release date is 26 August 2011.

Of course the big question is, will Jason Maroa (Stargate: Atlantis) be able to trump the legacy created by the The Governator?
