The Superman reboot has a supervillain.
Michael Shannon is General Zod. This is a very interesting and smart casting. He played a passionate if demented agent in the highly rated television show, Boardwalk Empire. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Revolutionary Road. He seems to do evil well and work diligently in films. He was in 8 mile, Groundhog Day, Vanilla Sky and Tigerland. Clearly this guy likes working. While there have been various versions of Zod, they have tended to be evil people from Superman's home planet, Krypton. Hopefully, Shannon can make Zod a better villain than Kevin Spacey made Lex Luthor in Bryan Singer's Superman movie. Superman: Man of Steel is set for release next year. Director Zack Snyder said on the announcement of Shannon's casting: "Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman others don't. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role." News on this film will be flooding the entertainment world for weeks to come.
