Box Office Preview: 21-04-2011

Welcome to our weekly preview of all the latest films that will be opening in local cinemas this weekend. Our duty is to inform you on what to see and what to avoid so that you don't spend your hard earned money on duds that should've never been given the production greenlight in the first place. Check out the full list of new releases after the jump.

Superhelde - Director: Stefan Niewoudt. Starring: Ivan Botha, Neil Sharim and Andrew Thompson. Distributor: The Film Factory. Age Restriction: 13SLM. Running Time: 95 Minutes.

Thanks to the guys who gave us the two Bakgat films, South Africa finally has its own superhero film. Except that our heroes don't actually have any powers. Bummer! You should definitely watch this.

Sucker Punch - Director: Zack Snyder. Starring: Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Carla Gugino and Jon Hamm. Distributor: Warner Bros. Pictures. Age Restriction: 13V. Running Time: 111 Minutes.

300 and Watchmen director Zack Snyder is back with another visual feast for the eyes.Talk about a one-trick pony! Still, it should be worth a watch just to see said visuals.

Mars Needs Moms - Director: Simon Wells. Starring: (Voice Cast)  Seth Green, Tom Everett Scott, Joan Cusack and Elisabeth Hanois. Districutor: Walt Disney Pictures. Age Restriction: PG-V. Running Time: 86 Minutes.

I got two words for this: uncanny valley. The creepiness of this performance capture animation style has me really worried for Steven Spielberg's upcoming Tintin film.

Country Strong - Director: Shana Feste. Starring: Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Garrett Heldund and Leighton Meester. Distributor: Screen Gems. Age Restriction: 13M. Running Time: 117 Minutes.

If you enjoy country music and you loved Gywneth Paltrow's appearances in Glee then this is the film of the year for you. If not then stay away.

Dum Maaro Dum - Director: Rohan Sippy. Starring: Abhishek Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Prateik Babbar, Bipasha Basu, Aditya Pancholi and Monty Munford. Distributor: Fox Star Studios. Age Restriction: TBA. Running Time: 135 Minutes.

Hot chicks. Exotic locations. Gun fights. This looks like a Bollywood film that might actually be worth our time. Still can't get over that music though...

Rio should top the box office again for the 3rd weekend in a row while Superhelde, Sucker Punch and Mars Needs Moms should take positions 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Overall box office numbers should be up from last year's totals thanks to the Easter Holiday.
